In Vedic society, the economy was based on agriculture and cow protection. In modern nations today, where agriculture and cow protection are neglected, the economy is unstable and artificial.
And so values and ethics values would vary. For thousands of years ago, when agriculture was developed in most parts of the planet, there were several spiritual and social customs formed around farming, and values which made the work easier.
Cow as mother is one of the major spiritual values found in Vedic culture. The Lord is regarded as the protector of the cows and spiritual culture (go-brāhmaṇa-hitaya).
The Bhagavata Purāṇa describes Lord Krishna as the caretaker of cows in the spiritual abode of Goloka Vrindavana, which is surrounded by millions of desire-fulfilling trees.
The cows have friendly stay. They are allowed to roam around freely in the barns so that they can stretch their limbs and get some exercise. They include feed with all the cow's favorite foods.
